In the thrilling final of the 2023 ACC Emerging Asia Cup, Pakistan Shaheens' Tayyab Tahir, who was named the Player of the Match, revealed how valuable advice from Pakistan's all-format skipper, Babar Azam, played a crucial role in their victory against India A.

Pakistan A showcased a dominant performance, defeating India A by 128 runs to secure the 2023 Emerging Asia Cup title in Colombo. This marked their second consecutive triumph in the tournament, having also won the 2019 edition in Bangladesh. Pakistan set a formidable total of 352/8 in their first innings, and their bowlers efficiently dismissed India A for just 224 in a mere 40 overs.

Tahir delivered an exceptional performance, notching his fourth List A century and powering his team to the impressive total. Achieving the milestone in just 66 deliveries, his blistering knock included 12 fours and four sixes.

Facing a challenging situation at 146/2, Tahir and Omair Yousuf began rebuilding, but India's quick strikes put them under pressure. Nevertheless, a vital partnership of 126 runs between Tahir and Mubasir Khan steadied the ship. Tahir's stellar innings came to an end at 108 off 71 balls, dismissed by Rajvardhan Hangargekar.

Speaking about his approach in the match, Tahir credited Babar Azam's advice for keeping him calm and focused. Babar's words of wisdom, grounded in his vast experience, motivated Tahir to enjoy the game and have confidence in their victory. The young batter followed the plan of staying at the crease, resulting in a successful outcome for Pakistan as they clinched a one-sided win as predicted by the captain of the senior men's Pakistan cricket team.

“Babar Azam told me to remain calm and easy. He said just enjoy the game and you will win. Obviously he is a world-class player who has played in many matches like this. He also said we will win the match one-sided and that is what happened. I just told myself that I have to stay on the crease. I knew that the longer I stay on the crease, the more runs I will be able to score. This was the plan and it worked,”  Tayyab Tahir said after the final.

Staying true to this approach, Tahir's remarkable innings played a significant role in Pakistan Shaheens' triumph, validating Babar's premonition of a one-sided victory.
