'Their Position In Top 4..'- Irfan Pathan Shares Secret Of Success For RCB Ahead Of IPL 2024

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes that the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) success in IPL 2024 hinges on the performance of their bowlers, particularly in the crucial stages of the game.

One of the IPL's most popular franchises, RCB are yet to claim the championship despite being a prominent team in the league. Although they reached the final in 2016, they fell short of clinching the title.

In the upcoming IPL season, RCB will aim to break their trophy drought. The team boasts a formidable batting lineup featuring stars like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell.

With the addition of Cameron Green, acquired from the Mumbai Indians, they now have a finisher in their ranks. Rajit Patidar, at number three, adds aggression to their batting lineup, supported by Maxwell and Green.

However, RCB's bowling department has historically been weaker than their batting. Pathan suggests that this trend may continue, so he does not consider RCB among the top contenders for this year's IPL title.

During a segment on Star Sports, Pathan was questioned about RCB's prospects of securing a spot in the top four in IPL 2024. He replied:

"Their position in the top four will be determined by their bowling performance. I wouldn't label them as the strongest contenders because there are four or five other teams that could surpass them."

The former IPL all-rounder anticipates that RCB's journey to the playoffs will be challenging unless their bowlers deliver, particularly in the critical moments of the game.

"Success in the final few overs, where small margins of five to ten runs can impact the outcome, hinges on effective bowling. This will ultimately secure a place in the top four. RCB needs to exert considerable effort in this regard," Pathan emphasised.

Following the exclusion of Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel, and Wanindu Hasaranga, RCB acquired Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, and Lockie Ferguson in the auction to bolster their fast-bowling department.

However, concerns arise as these pacers are not as good as Hazlewood, Harshal or Hasaranga. In the 2023 season, Joseph and Dayal struggled to make a significant impact for Gujarat Titans (GT), while Ferguson seemed to lack rhythm while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

RCB's management faces a significant challenge in their bowling department, particularly in spin bowling. Despite having four spinners in the squad - Karn Sharma, Mayank Dagar, Himanshu Sharma, and Swapnil Singh - they lack experience.

With a trophy drought spanning 16 years, RCB is determined to clinch their maiden title in IPL 2024. Despite reaching the final three times, they have yet to claim the championship, making this season a crucial opportunity to break the jinx.
