Virender Sehwag minced no words in his assessment of Team India’s performance against New Zealand. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India lost their three-match series by a 0-3 margin, thus sustaining a rare series defeat at home.

Sehwag questioned the inability of Indian players in countering spin, and also extended his congratulations to New Zealand captain Tom Latham for achieving the unthinkable.

Sehwag slams Indian team for series defeat to NZ

Following India’s 25-run defeat against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, former opening batter Virender Sehwag took to his Instagram account and lashed out at Rohit Sharma’s troops for their horrendous performance.

Sehwag believes that Indian batters require an upgrade for countering spinners, and also added that the team management should make way from making ‘needless experimentations’ in Test cricket. The legendary opening batter also took this time to congratulate Tom Latham, who led the New Zealand team to a historic 3-0 series win on Indian soil.

New Zealand won the opening Test in Bengaluru last month by eight wickets to register their first win in India after a gap of 36 years. In a space of a few weeks, the New Zealand team ended up achieving three Test wins in India to secure their away series by a 3-0 margin.

For Team India, seasoned campaigners Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both managed to tally just 93 and 91 runs respectively across six innings at batting averages of less than 16. Moreover, barring wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar, no other Indian batter managed to maintain a 40-plus average with the bat in the series.

As of now, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma along with the rest of their teammates will play a five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia ‘Down Under’. The first Test of the series will be hosted by the Optus Stadium from November 22 onwards.
