Australian Test captain Pat Cummins came up with a hysterical response to David Warner’s unexpected retirement reversal. Warner, who recently expressed his readiness for a return to the Test arena for the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India, was met with Cummins' cheeky acknowledgment.
Cummins’ Hilarious Reaction To Warner's Test Return
Pat Cummins shared that he wished Warner the best of luck for his stint with the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League but also teased that he looked forward to Warner's future role as a commentator.
During a conversation on The Grade Cricketer podcast, Cummins was in no mood to miss the opportunity to have some light-hearted banter.
“Dave, we are very interested. We are taking it very seriously, and we'll be in touch, mate,” Cummins chuckled. He further added, "I did speak to Dave a couple of days ago, and he was like, ‘What do you think?’ and I’m like, yeah! Good luck with the Thunder this year. And I will look forward to your comments on Fox.”
Cummins’ reaction highlighted with sarcasm hinted that Warner's potential return to the Test arena was unexpected even among his teammates.
Head and Marsh Speculation: 'First Time I’ve Ever Heard of That'
Cummins also addressed recent reports suggesting that either Travis Head or Mitchell Marsh could be promoted to open alongside Usman Khawaja.
“That is funny,” Cummins quipped. “I think I said it the other day that Trav Head and Mitchell Marsh… I’d wake up in the papers. Was, you know, Trav Head firming as favourite to open the batting. And I am like—that’s the first time I've ever heard of that. It is just hilarious.”
Australia’s hunt for a stable opener has become a burning question following the confirmation that Steve Smith will return to his familiar No. 4 spot.
Chief selector George Bailey had earlier announced that the team was exploring younger options, including 19-year-old Sam Konstas of New South Wales and seasoned Victoria opener Marcus Harris for the vacant spot.
Furthermore, adding to the team’s problems, all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out due to a back stress fracture that required surgery. The absence of Green has further compounded the problems faced by the Aussie selectors as they gear up for the high-voltage five-match series against India.
