Even after India lost the three-match ODI series by a 2-1 margin, the last evening was all delightful with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's dominance on Australian soil. After captain Shubman Gill fell early, the legendary duo stayed unbeaten to steer India to a commanding 9-wicket victory.
Following this, the RO-KO duo will be seen in action again in the ODI series against South Africa, and their participation in the domestic tournament has become a massive buzz. Talking about this, captain Shubman Gill shares his thoughts on their much-anticipated participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Shubman Gill on Rohit-Kohli’s participation in Vijay Hazare Trophy
After hanging up their boots from the Test and T20Is, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's sole focus remained in the 50-over format. The potential gap in their international cricket participation is raising eyebrows. Depending on this, a buzz was going over their involvement in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the domestic 50-over tournament, to keep themselves game-ready.
As the official confirmation about their participation in the tournament is still not confirmed, Team India's ODI captain, Shubman Gill, reflected on this. In the post-match press conference, he revealed that the final decision will come after the South Africa series.
“Right now, we haven't had any discussions. There's not much of a gap left for the South Africa series. There's a bit of a gap between the South Africa and New Zealand series. We will have discussions after the South Africa series, and we will decide on how to keep the players in touch,” he said.
Sydney sees Rohit, Kohli shine one last time in Australia
Standing on the brink of their international career, a massive buzz was going on about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's ODI future, and the duo silenced all the critics with their outstanding performance in Sydney. Chasing down the 237-run total, Shubman Gill walked away scoring only 24 runs, and Rohit-Kohli took the charge.
When the situation demanded some powerful knocks, they delivered. Going heavy on the Australian bowlers, Rohit Sharma smashed his 50th international ton, and on the other end, Kohli anchored the innings. Coming away from two consecutive ducks, Kohli played an unbeaten knock of 74 runs, and India registered a dominating 9-wicket victory. With that, fans' expectations become higher to see the duo gracing the 2027 ODI World Cup stage.
