Conditioning coach lauds Shubman Gill’s fitness

India’s strength and conditioning coach Ankit Kaliyar praised rising star Shubman Gill for his approach towards fitness and claimed that the youngster is clearly inspired from his senior teammate Virat Kohli.

As per Kaliyar, Gill constantly tries to emulate Kohli in terms of batting as well as in skill set, and is someone who has a bright career ahead of him.

While speaking with the Times of India during a recent interview, he said:

“Shubman Gill is very fit. Not just fit, he is a very skilful player. There is no doubt that Shubman is inspired by Virat bhai. Be it batting, fitness, or skill, Shubman is following Virat bhai. I am sure Shubman will be doing well for the country in the coming years.”

Meanwhile, the coach described Virat Kohli as the fittest athlete in the world and hailed the Indian batting legend for injecting a strict fitness routine within the team. He added:

“Virat Kohli is the fittest player in the Indian team and the world. The reason behind that is that he’s following a strict schedule.”

Both Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli stacked up runs in heap at the 2023 World Cup, where their match-winning influence powered Team India to the final of the tournament. Ever since India’s defeat to Australia at the title clash, the two cricketers distanced themselves from team’s subsequent T20I series at home.

While Kohli will be returning to the Indian squad in time for their forthcoming two-match Test series against South Africa, Gill will be featuring in Tests as well as T20I segment of the tour.
