The ongoing ODI series started on a rough note for Virat Kohli, and the entire world sparked questions about his ODI future. After two consecutive ducks in the first two matches of the three-match ODI series, the former Indian skipper’s form is under scrutiny.

After the previous forgettable outings, Kohli faced immense criticism, but former Indian star Irfan Pathan urged the batter to remain patient. He suggested that the immense pressure could be behind the batting struggles.

Backing matters when form runs dry

After taking his shoes off from Test and T20Is, Virat Kohli’s sole focus in international cricket has been ODI. After the Champions Trophy final, the star batter made a comeback in the 50-over format, aiming for a major turnaround, but it ended up being a nightmare. After two consecutive ducks, his place in Team India’s ODI plan has become a major question.

The last dismissal sparked question over his place in the ODI World Cup 2027. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Irfan Pathan reminded fans that while Kohli remains an icon of Indian cricket, he needs support to navigate this challenging phase.

“Virat Kohli two ducks in two matches; we have not seen it before. It could be because of pressure, rustiness and everything. Whatever chatter is ongoing on social media about these two (Rohit, Virat), these two players mustn’t get affected by it. No one will play if they don’t perform. But they have done wonderful work for India. They need support, persistence from selectors till the runs, the right rhythm does not come. It could be really important,” he said.

A piece of advice for Virat Kohli

Being away from competitive cricket for months, Virat Kohli’s re-arrival in international cricket failed to meet the expectations. While critics focus on his forgettable outings, Irfan Pathan steps in with advice for the Indian great, urging him to stay patient and navigate this challenging phase with calm and focus.

“How can Virat get out of it. Virat would want to make sure to get that single and get off strike. But he should not get desperate. I hope for that one single; he would not get desperate and stop enjoying his batting. He has to enjoy his batting. If he does that, he will get more time at the crease, and if he gets runs, he will not look back,” he said.

After two consecutive disappointments, Virat Kohli will face Australia in the third ODI in Sydney on October 25. With fans eager for a resurgence, the King will be determined to deliver a memorable comeback.
