'Should Learn From...': EX-Indian Star's Advice To Shakib After Matthews' Time-Out Incident

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan's controversial appeal against Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews has taken all the shine away from their side's win last evening in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Delhi.

Shakib appealed for Mathews' to be dismissed 'Timed Out' after failing to play his first delivery within two minutes after a fall of a wicket. While the mode is dismissal is legal and within MCC laws, Shakib is facing backlash for diminishing the spirit of the game.

The Bangladesh all-rounder refused to take back the appeal despite the on-field umpires' resistance.

Former Indian player Mohammad Kaif urged Shakib to learn from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who upheld the spirit of the game during India's ODI against Sri Lanka earlier this year at Guwahati.

Taking to social media platform X, Kaif cited Sharma's example, where the Indian captain withdrew an appeal against Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka, who was run out at the non-strikers' end by Mohammed Shami for backing too much despite repeated warnings.

Here's what Kaif posted

"Shakib should learn from Rohit sharma"

The said incident took place during the first ODI of the three-match series, where Sharma upheld the spirit of the gentlemen's game, and called back Shanaka, who was batting on 98 earning praise from all quarters.

The Lankan captain scored an unbeaten 108* in his side's 67-run loss.
