Bangladesh overcame Afghanistan in yet another tense thriller, this time to seal the three-match series with a game to spare in Sharjah. Much like Rashid Khan’s late scare in the previous game, fast bowler Azmatullah Omarzai came up clutch for Afghanistan, only for Bangladesh’s lower-order batters to hold their nerves towards the business end of the contest.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the second T20I of the three-match series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, as it panned out at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on Friday, October 3.

Nasum Ahmed strikes but Zadran, Gurbaz take AFG to 147

Afghanistan batted first and started off with a 55-run opening stand between Sediqullah Atal (23 off 19) and Ibrahim Zadran (38 off 37). However, both cricketers failed to convert their splendid starts as they were dismissed by Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed in quick succession. Rahmanullah Gurbaz at number three minted a quick 22-ball 30 in the middle overs to sustain Afghanistan’s early momentum.

Rishad (2-45) and Nasum Ahmed (2-25) added a wicket each to their tally, both in the middle overs to claim two wickets each in the innings. For Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai (19* off 17) and Mohammad Nabi (20* off 12) crafted quick runs at the death to take their team to a competitive 147-5 in 20 overs.

Nurul Hasan breaks through for BAN after Omarzai’s four-fer

Bangladesh lost both openers, Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon for just two each to Azmatullah Omarzai within the first four overs of the run-chase. Mujeeb Ur Rahman delivered a tight spell from his end, bagging an important wicket of Saif Hassan in the process to claim figures of 1-18.

Tottering at 24-3, captain Jaker Ali led Bangladesh from the front with a courageous 25-ball 32. Shamim Hossain (33 off 22) and Nurul Hasan (31* off 21) also unleashed cracking 30s, with the latter of the two batters steering Bangladesh past the finish line in a tense final-over finish. For Afghanistan, Omarzai added two more wickets to claim figures of 4-23, while Rashid Khan revived his team’s dwindling prospects with two key wickets of his own, only for Bangladesh players to notch up a win with mere two wickets remaining at the end.
