Rohit Sharma would go down as one of the finest captains in IPL history. As a leader, he has won five titles for Mumbai Indians. However, his performances with the bat has dipped a bit, and though he did well in the 2024 season, overall, the consistency has not been there in the last five years.
Rohit Sharma's Inconsistency Raises Questions Over His Commitment To MI
In this season, Rohit has hit three fifties in 13 matches, and his inconsistency at the top is not helping Mumbai Indians. Various pundits have given different opinions on his form and now Atul Wassan, the former Indian pacer has also put a strong statement forward.
Wassan clearly stated that Rohit Sharma looks a bit disinterested and after winning almost everything, the motivation seem to be lacking. The pacer admitted that it is difficult to motivate yourself daily and Rohit needs to find some type of aim to continue contributing regularly. Wassan suggested that longevity and legacy can be the two motivating factors for the former MI skipper.
'He seems to be a bit disinterested; the motivation, the fire in the belly, has satiated. He has won almost everything, from winning the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy to retiring from Test cricket. Hence, to motivate yourself to play at this level of cricket every day is a very tough task. A player needs to have some sort of aim in the future; it could be the longevity and the legacy."
Rohit Sharma recently retired from Test cricket and will now lead India in the ODI format most likely till the 2027 World Cup. He was removed as MI skipper before the 2024 season, and after struggling last year, MI have qualified for the playoffs in 2025.
