Captain India is a monumental task for any cricketer, and Rohit Sharma is carrying forward a stellar legacy that has seen skippers like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli don the role in the past decade or so.
Rohit is currently leading India in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and is under immense pressure to lift the coveted title after 2011 when Dhoni claimed the trophy.
The 36-year-old has led from the front in this World Cup, displaying both acumens while captaining, and belligerent during his knocks, creating calmness in the dressing room.
Former India player Suresh Raina has compared Sharma to Dhoni, stating how players showcase similar respect for the former much like the latter.
Here's what Raina said
“Whenever I use to talk with players they use to say Rohit has the same respect as Dhoni – Rohit has been very friendly in dressing room."
As quoted by Inside Sport, Raina had earlier laid out similarities between both players still of captaincy as well, stating how Sharma can be the next Dhoni for India.
"I have seen him, he is calm, he likes to listen, he likes to give confidence to the players and on top of that, he likes to lead from the front. When the captain leads from the front and at the same time, he gives respect to the dressing room atmosphere, you know you have it all."
Rohit will be action on Thursday, when India face Bangladesh at Pune in their fourth WC 23 game.
