Perennial underdogs in any global tournament, South Africa have had a stellar start to their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign in India, notching up overwhelming wins over Sri Lanka and Australia in their first two matches.

The Temba Bavuma side takes on the Netherlands today at Dharamsala in a bid to claim the top spot in the World Cup points table.

On the eve of the encounter, Bavuma stated that the Proteas wouldn't take the Dutch team lightly, having once tasted a crushing defeat at their hands in the T20 World Cup last year.

As quoted by the Daily Star, Bavuma asserted that South Africa would head into the tie as well-prepared for any other top-ranked team, despite having a 6-0 record over the Netherlands.

'We definitely won't be taking them lightly' - Temba Bavuma

"We definitely won't be taking them lightly. There was a T20 World Cup last year, a 50-over World Cup now. Different format, different ask in terms of your skills, being able to do your skills for a longer period of time. So, I think that's something that I think we all need to appreciate," Bavuma said.

"I think in terms of the confidence and belief within the team without us being arrogant or loud about it I think it's still up there. We still respect opposition, not just the Netherlands, but any opposition. We'll be coming into the game with the same mindset that we had against Sri Lanka and that we had against Australia," he added.

South Africa have looked like a well-oiled machine so far, with almost all their batters showcasing form and bowlers chipping in with wickets. So, considering their red-hot form, the Proteas will certainly start as the favourites to win this contest.
