'Rohit Sharma-Hardik MI Controversy Could Not Have...' - Ex-India Coach Gives Blatant Solution

Ever since Hardik Pandya took over Mumbai Indians' captaincy from Rohit Sharma ahead of IPL 2024, there has been constant criticism coming towards the Indian all-rounder, even from their own fans.

While Hardik's individual performance had been poor throughout the season, home fans booing him made matters even worse.

In a recent interaction with PTI, former India head coach Anil Kumble talked about Mumbai's disastrous IPL 2024, and also highlighted how the situation at MI camp could have been resolved.

"The change that happened was a bit sudden. Obviously Rohit Sharma was a part of Mumbai Indians for the last 10 years and then led the team for five titles. Maybe in hindsight, maybe he could have sort of looked at Rohit to manage this year and then maybe Hardik coming in next year but the leadership obviously took that decision. But having said that, I don't think they played good cricket," said Kumble, as quoted by PTI.

Further, Kumble kept his support behind Shubman Gill, who had an ordinary debut as captain in IPL 2024. In fact, the legendary leg spinner also highlighted how Gill likes to attack the opposition, which will definitely help him in the future.

"You can't really judge (in one season), I thought he was pretty aggressive in his approach when it came to captaincy. He was always looking to take wickets and again for GT unfortunately a couple of injuries didn't help. Shami was a big miss," Kumble added.

Placed at the bottom of the points table, Mumbai will play their last match in IPL 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 17. Gujarat, on the other hand, are currently in Hyderabad, where the toss has been delayed due to bad weather.
