India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes that sports play a major role in human evolution. Speaking to renowned US-based podcaster Lex Fridman recently, Modi mentioned how sports “connect people on a deeper level”.

Being asked about the better team, Modi initially refrained from siding with a particular team. However, he soon pointed out how he fell back on recent results to know about the better team.

"Now coming to the question of who’s better or not. When it comes to the techniques of the game, I’m not an expert. Only those who specialise in it can be the judge of it. They can only decide which team is the best and which players are the best. But sometimes, the results speak for themselves. Just a few days ago, India and Pakistan played a match and the result revealed who was the better team. That’s how we know,” Modi said.

PM Modi Referred to ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Albeit indirectly, Modi highlighted India defeating Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium during the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025. India, who remained unbeaten across five matches, ended up lifting the silverware after 12 years.

Pakistan, on the other hand, lost their first two matches before the last one got abandoned due to inclement weather conditions. Hosting the first ICC event in almost three decades, Pakistan were expected to do much better at home.

Historically, Pakistan have won more matches than India in head-to-head encounters across the three formats. As far as the last decade is concerned, India have a stellar 12-3 lead over their arch-rivals. Globally, Indian cricket team and players are considered far superior than their Pakistani counterparts in modern-day cricket.
