Pakistan cricket team crashing out of a global tournament is usually followed by contrasting criticisms and suggestions. If the same wasn’t already enough post their embarrassing exit from ICC Champions Trophy 2025, former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has come up with a bizarre challenge.
As if the blame game among the Pakistani fraternity wasn’t enough, Mushtaq, one of the contenders to replace Aaqib Javed as their head coach, has proposed India to play as many as 30 international matches across formats to prove that they’re a better team than Pakistan.
“If we keep political things aside, their players are very good, and they have been playing good cricket. If you are really a good team, I think let’s play 10 Tests, 10 ODIs and 10 T20Is against Pakistan, then everything would become clear,” Mushtaq told 24 News HD channel.
Frankly speaking, India, or any other team, doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone with regard to facing Pakistan. Recent record is enough a testament. Furthermore, conducting 30 matches in modern-day cricketing atmosphere is beyond impossible.
Saqlain Mushtaq Believes Pakistan Can Challenge The World
Further emphasizing his point, Mushtaq, who has had coaching stints with international teams in the past, highlighted how Pakistan have it in them to challenge the world with their on-field performances.
“If we get our preparation right and sort out things in the right direction, then we will be in a situation where we can give solid answers to the world and India as well,” the 48-year-old mentioned.
Often used casually perhaps due to the number of characters in it, “if” is one of the most powerful words in the English language. Hence, people often seek refuge in it before sharing a lofty goal.
While this is neither to demean Pakistani cricketers nor to say that they can’t do well - they surely can - but putting things into place is easier said than done especially at PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board). If the Pakistani cricket team isn’t able to stand tall on the expectations time and again, it hints that a lot of work has to be done behind the scenes.
