Shubman Gill Gets Special Message From Parents
Though Gill's on-field heroics left fans in awe, it was a quiet off-field moment that truly struck an emotional chord. In a video montage shared by the BCCI, Gill was seen receiving a surprise video message from his parents, congratulating him on his record-breaking innings.
"Shubman beta, well played. Batting dekhke bahut maza aaya. Aur dil mein bahut shukun mila... bahut hi proud feel huwa,” said his father.
His mother added, “Bahut achcha laga tumhari batting dekhkar. Keep going, God bless you.”
The message caught Gill by surprise and touched him deeply. Visibly emotional, he responded with a warm smile
"This message means a lot to me. Growing up, I played almost all my cricket for my dad. He and my best friend are the only two people I listen to when it comes to cricket. But yes… it also reminded me that I missed my triple hundred!"
The behind-the-scenes footage captured Gill's post-match evening that is from fulfilling media duties and signing autographs to being welcomed back at the team hotel with dhol beats, cheers, and applause.
Reflecting on his day, Gill recalled his routine:
“I went to the pool for some recovery, came back, showered. I was having dinner and you guys stopped me in the middle to record this,” he chuckled. “Once I'm done with my routine, that’s when I check my phone before bed — mainly to speak to my family and close friends.”
Gill's Knock Laid Solid Foundation
Gill’s 269 came off 387 deliveries, laced with crisp strokeplay and determination. His innings laid a solid foundation for India's first-innings onslaught. Despite the pitch offering little for the bowlers, Gill stood out for his ability to maintain focus across sessions and resist himself to play recklessly and instead, seize the golden opportunity to script history.
At the end of Day 2, England’s top order was dismantled under pressure, reduced to 25 for 3, before Joe Root and Harry Brook offered a flicker of resistance. At stumps on Day 2, England are at 77 for 3, still trailing by 510 runs.
