Rishabh Pant, known for his explosive batting and cheerful personality on and off the field, brought the same energy to a recent episode of The Kapil Sharma Show. Appearing alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir, Pant had the audience in splits with his natural wit and friendly banter.
Pant And Gautam Gambhir's Inside Joke
One of the standout moments of the show came when host Kapil Sharma asked Rishabh Pant to name the "jija" (brother-in-law) of the Indian cricket team. With a mischievous smile and no hesitation, Pant quickly responded -Mohammed Shami.
The revelation sparked laughter across the set, with Gautam Gambhir joining in with his trademark style. He added, “Tell him, 'Jija, you haven’t been home for two years!'.
While Pant did not elaborate on why Shami carries the nickname, those familiar with Indian team dynamics understand that such labels are often born out of long tours, dressing room antics, and jokes.
Reportedly, Shami earned the title because of his frequent questions and occasional complaints, traits that led teammates to jokingly call him ‘jija’.
Despite being away from the field for several months due to a prolonged injury, Shami continues to be a part of team discussions and banter. He is currently not part of India’s touring squad for England series but is expected to be in contention for the high-stakes Australia tour later this year.
Shami is also working hard for his comeback. In the recent video shared by the ace pacer, he was seen putting in all his sweat and hard work, lifting weights and performing exercises, to prove his fitness for a strong comeback.
Legal Trouble Increases For Shami Amid Return Hopes
It is important to mention that Mohammed Shami faced a serious legal development earlier this week. On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court ordered the veteran pacer to pay ₹4 lakh per month in interim maintenance to his ex- wife Hasin Jahan and their daughter.
This comes after Jahan appealed a previous 2023 district court ruling that granted her ₹50,000 and her daughter ₹80,000 monthly. The revised order significantly increases the maintenance amount. This has likely added further personal challenges for Shami as he works towards making a full recovery from injury and joining the team soon.
