Yashasvi Jaiswal played a brilliant innings, scoring 74 runs, but it wasn’t enough as the Rajasthan Royals (RR) lost to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by just 2 runs in a thrilling IPL match on April 19.

The match went down to the final ball, and it was Avesh Khan who became the hero for Lucknow, defending just 9 runs in the last over and taking 3 important wickets. His performance reminded fans of Mitchell Starc’s last-over magic against Delhi in RR’s previous match.

This defeat marked RR’s fourth loss in a row, and their second close defeat in back-to-back games. They had earlier lost to Delhi Capitals in a Super Over.

Reacting to RR’s poor run, former IPL chairman Lalit Modi posted a sarcastic comment on social media. He wrote,

"Something wrong with @rajasthanroyals this season in the @IPL They would be prime for a #Chokers trophy if we had one 🙄🤨🤪🙏🏽"

Yashasvi’s Heroics In Vain As RR Fall Short

In the run chase, Rajasthan got off to a flying start. Jaiswal and 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi put on an 85-run partnership by the 9th over. The home team looked in complete control, especially with captain Riyan Parag also adding a quick 39 runs. However, things fell apart in the 18th over when Avesh Khan dismissed both Jaiswal and Parag due to poor shot choices. After that, RR couldn't hold it together and fell just 2 runs short of the target.

Earlier in the match, Lucknow posted a strong total of 180 for 5. Aiden Markram scored 66 off 45 balls, and Ayush Badoni added 50 off 34, sharing a solid 76-run partnership. Towards the end, Abdul Samad provided a powerful finish, smashing 30 not out from just 10 balls, including four sixes in the final over bowled by Sandeep Sharma.

For RR, Wanindu Hasaranga was the standout bowler, picking up 2 wickets for 31 runs in his four overs. Despite the strong start with both bat and ball, Rajasthan couldn’t seal the win.
