The Indian women's team is gearing up for the Women's T20 World Cup, slated later this year (October 3-20) in Bangladesh. Before the marquee tournament, the Indian team will be seen in action in the Women's Asia Cup 2024 in Sri Lanka.

The Indian star batter, Smriti Mandhana, opened up about how she approached batting before India's opening game in the tournament.

The Southpaw has a wealth of experience in the format. She has so far played 136 games and has scored 3320 runs in them at an average of 28.13 and a strike rate of 121.83. The Indian team depends a lot on how Mandhana gives them a start at the top. She will be playing a key role for the Asian champions as they kickstart their campaign against Pakistan on July 19. India will be looking to lift the trophy for the record seventh time.

Smriti Mandhana reveals her mindset while batting

Ahead of this all-important clash, Mandhana was heard speaking about her batting approach and mindset. The star batter spoke about how it is easier for her to chase a target as the team has a target in front of them.

'My mindset is just to play according to the merit of the ball. Sometimes, you bat first, or you bat second. Definitely, when you bat second, you have that score in front of you, and you can calculate your risks, and you can go for it. In the first innings, I feel in T20, it's a bit of a disadvantage that you don't know what you have to get to. But I think not to complicate it too much, just play according to the merit of the ball. It's very simple; just keep it simple. I feel like that," - Mandhana said to Star Sports.

The Indian team is coming into this tournament after a successful series against South Africa at home. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side defeated the Proteas by 3-0 in the ODI series, following it up with the win in the one-off Test.
