'Pakistan's Strength Has Become Their Weakness': Aakash Chopra on PAK Bowling

Aakash Chopra called out Pakistan's bowling woes after the Asian giants failed miserably with their historic strength during the victory against Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup 2023. The former cricketer believes Pakistan's natural "strength" has turned into a "weakness" as they head to Ahmedabad for the mother of all clashes against arch-rivals India on Saturday (October 14).

Before Babar Azam's men lock horns with Rohit Sharma & company in the most anticipated game of the tournament so far, Chopra assessed Pakistan's problems with ball in hand amidst injury and form concerns that their ace speedster Shaheen Afridi continues to carry.

Shaheen is playing a troubled third finger in his bowling hand and has undergone sustained strife since bagging a four-fer in the early stages of the recent Asia Cup match versus India in Pallekele. The left-arm quick ended with unsatisfying figures of 1/37 off his 10 overs versus the Netherlands and was hammered for 1/66 off his 9 overs against Sri Lanka.

Shaheen's World Cup performances in the Hyderabad leg would be a cause of great worry for the team management before resuming the India rivalry. In absence of Naseem Shah, Pakistan depend heavily on Shaheen to provide them with early breakthroughs and ease the burden on the rest of the cast.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra revealed even prominent experts based in Pakistan are concerned over the team's lacklustre bowling performance against Sri Lanka with the likes of Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan feeling the heat amidst Shaheen's struggles.

"You don't see that much confidence in the Pakistan camp and on their experts' faces and views. They don't have the confidence that they will win because there are a lot of gaps visible," Chopra said.

"Bowling - Pakistan's strength has become their weakness. It's being said that Shaheen Shah Afridi's third finger is swollen because of which he is unable to hold the ball properly. He is finding it very difficult."

The much-awaited India-Pakistan clash will take place on October 14 from the Narendra Modi Stadium. Pakistan will hope that the bowlers can bring their best foot forward against a strong Indian side.
