Gary Kirsten, the former South African batter and the man who was the head coach of the Indian team in the 2011 World Cup has been appointed as Pakistan's white-ball coach for two years.

Under Kirsten, Pakistan will play three ICC events which includes two T20 World Cups - 2024 and 2026. The Champions Trophy 2025 which will be in a 50-over format is sandwiched in between, and Kirsten has set his eye on winning at least one of the tournament out of the three.

"If you can win one of those three ICC Events, that will be an amazing achievement on its own, whether it' the upcoming event or it is two years from now."

Kirsten added that his job is to operate the team at its best and if they do that, they can win the trophy. The South African who is with Gujarat Titans in IPL currently, stated that he wants to understand the team and its strength and weakness and what it can do to compete with the top teams on consistent basis and win ICC trophies.

"My job is to make sure that the team operates at its best. If the team is operating at its best, we will always have a good chance of winning a trophy. So for me, it will be really important to understand where is the team now and where does it need to go to be able to compete right at the top of the pile, and that’s winning ICC events."

Pakistan will next play T20I series against Ireland and England before they start their T20 World Cup campaign against United States on 6th of June.
