Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa shared his thoughts on Sanju Samson's omission from India's squad for the Sri Lanka ODI series.

Despite being included in the T20I squad for the three-match series starting on July 27, Samson's exclusion from the ODI team drew criticism and headlines.

In a virtual interaction organized by Sony Sports Network, Uthappa noted that this isn't the first time Samson has faced such a situation, and it likely won't be the last.

He suggested that one of the main reasons could be the recent leadership change, with Gautam Gambhir taking over as Team India's head coach.

Don't think it will be the last time: Uthappa

"From Sanju's perspective, this is not the first time he has gone through it? I don't think it will be the last time he will go through it as a player, but Sanju's one-day numbers have been quite incredible. I think, again, with changes in leadership group or changes within the leadership group. Things have to kind of settle down a little bit and we as fans and supporters of the Indian cricket team have to give that space to kind of settle down as well," Uthappa said.

Samson, who is part of India's T20I squad, missed out on the 50-over format team despite scoring his maiden ODI hundred during India's last 50-over match against South Africa in December last year.

India's white-ball tour against Sri Lanka starts on July 26, with the ODI series beginning on August 2.
