On October 26, India faced a tough series defeat against New Zealand in a three-Test match series, with the Kiwis leading 2-0 after their latest 113-run win in Pune. It was a rare setback for India, marking the first time in 12 years they lost a series on home soil. New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner was instrumental, taking 13 wickets across the series and dismantling India’s batting lineup.

The second Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune saw New Zealand dominating. This historic win gave New Zealand their first Test series victory in India, and they now hold an unbeatable 2-0 lead as the teams head to the final match at Wankhede Stadium. India’s chase started with promise as Jaiswal led with some strong strokes, indicating India’s intent to fight back. Unfortunately, captain Rohit Sharma fell early, scoring just eight runs. However, Jaiswal and Gill held their ground, showing the resilience India needed.

Mitchell Santner struck again, taking five wickets and putting New Zealand in control. He ended with six wickets, bringing his match tally to 12. Despite a determined effort from India’s lower-order batsmen, New Zealand bowled them out for 245, securing a 113-run win and a historic series lead.

After the match, Rohit Sharma remained optimistic. Speaking calmly in the post-match conference, he shared his approach to the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy

"I am not going to overreact. You need to have quite chat about what they need to do. I am going to support the players who are going to play in Australia for the first time. Keep it calm and make them feel they belong here."  he said.

India's Upcoming Hectic Schedule

India will play the final Test against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium before heading to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The first match of the five-Test series begins on November 22 in Perth, followed by matches in Adelaide, Gabba, Melbourne, and Moore Park.
