Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan has broken his silence on his much-discussed fitness journey, revealing he is undergoing dedicated training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. The 27-year-old acknowledged his past struggles but emphasized his commitment to long-term improvement and a return to international cricket.

In recent days, Azam, son of former captain Moin Khan, also shut down social media buzz after a viral picture claimed he had lost 69 kilograms in two months. Sharing the photo himself, he clarified, “Work in progress but this is from 2020.” While fans admired the transformation, he reminded them that such drastic weight loss was unrealistic.

Azam Gives Update On Recent Fitness Regime

In a recent candid talk, Azam Khan addressed the scrutiny surrounding his physical condition and outlined his determination to meet the demands of top-level cricket through disciplined training and sustained effort.

“Right now, I am in Lahore and trying to work on my fitness and game at the NCA. My weight loss won’t happen in a couple of weeks or days, it needs time. For the past four or five years, I have been playing a lot of cricket, so I didn’t have the chance to properly focus on my fitness,” Khan said as per GeoSuper.

Azam also took responsibility for his previous dietary choices and stated that he will overcome them to become the best version of himself. “I had some bad eating habits, but that’s not an excuse anymore.”

Azam Determined For Comeback

Now more determined than ever, Azam stressed the need for consistency and hard work to earn a national recall and sustain a long-term career.

“The plan is to play at the highest level, and for that, you have to train to be the best. Many players have played internationally but then disappeared. If I want to sustain myself, I need to work twice as hard as I am now,” he concluded.

Despite having played 14 T20Is for Pakistan, Azam has struggled to translate his domestic success onto the international stage. He has scored only 88 runs in 13 innings, with a highest score of 30. His last appearance came during the 2024 T20 World Cup in a match against the USA.
