After three Test matches against England, Team India is trailing in the series by a 1-2 margin. Despite a strong comeback in the second Test, they couldn’t maintain momentum, suffering another crushing defeat in the latest clash.

With two Tests left in the series, Bengal batter Abhimanyu Easwaran is still waiting for a chance. Reflecting on this, former India Women’s coach WV Raman urged the team management to clarify Easwaran’s role and future in the squad.

WV Raman Seeks Clarity On Easwaran’s Future

After a long 8-year break, Karun Nair secured his place in Team India’s Test squad, but the fate of Abhimanyu Easwaran took a different turn. Despite shining in domestic cricket and earning his maiden Test call in 2022, Easwaran is yet to make his Test debut and continues to wait for a chance in India’s playing XI.

The Bengal batter has already led the India A side and delivered outstanding performances on the big stage. He is still warming the bench in the ongoing Test series against England. Speaking to RevSportz, former India Women’s coach WV Raman called for clear answers on Easwaran’s role in the team.

“For someone like Abhimanyu Easwaran, it is fair to give them a string of chances. One odd sporadic Test is not going to work for the individual or the team. People have to take a call on him. There is, of course, no point in carrying a cricketer tour after tour and not giving him opportunities,” he said.

What Is Team Management’s Take On Easwaran’s Future?

After Abhimanyu Easwaran was named in Team India’s squad for the ongoing Test, the cricket world was optimistic about his chances in India’s playing XI. But the disappointment persisted as Sai Sudharsan made his debut in the first Test. Reflecting on this, WV Raman questioned why a consistent domestic performer and India A captain is still overlooked.

“The team management is also not sure what to do with one particular player. I am not saying Abhimanyu is not good. It’s better if the decision makers come to a conclusion and decide what exactly he is all about,” he said.

“He has been performing in domestic cricket for a long time. He has been part of the A sides. He is even being made the captain of the A side, which means they do rate him. But he doesn’t seem to be getting the nod,” he added.

Apart from Easwaran, a young pacer Arshdeep Singh has also earned his maiden Test call-up but is still waiting for his debut. With the next matches approaching, both are unlikely to debut, but fans continue to hold on to hope for a surprise
