The Gautam Gambhir-era in Indian cricket has begun with the first ever press conference of the new head coach. He was accompanied by the chief selector of India, Ajit Agarkar and the duo answered a lot of questions revolving around the recent selection of the T20I and ODI squads for the Sri Lanka tour.

Amidst answering questions regarding the selection and other knits and grits, Gautam Gambhir was asked about his relation with the Indian superstar, Virat Kohli.

The changing equations between Gambhir and Kohli

Notably, the duo have a history that dates back to 2013. During the time it was believed that Gambhir was agitated by Kohli's energetic outbursts on the field. The tension was evident during the IPL that year when the two had a on-field verbal spat during a game between KKR and RCB.

The bitter-sweet relationship between the two once again came to the forefront during IPL 2023. Gautam Gambhir was mentoring the Lucknow Super Giants during the time and Virat Kohli was a part of the RCB team. After home of match of the LSG, Kohli and Gambir were once again seen having a heated exchange.

However, during IPL 2024, the duo were seen exchanging pleasantries and seemed to have buried the hatchet and moved on as two mature individual. On being asked about this ever-evolving dynamics with Kohli and sharing the same dressing room with him in the upcoming time, here is what Gambhir said -

"My relationship with Virat Kohli is between two of us and not for TRP. After my appointment I and Virat Kohli had exchanged messages. I had a very good relationship with him. He's a world class athlete, a world class cricketer. We both will work hard to win matches for our team".
