Royal Challengers Bengaluru's young talent Swastik Chikara has addressed the social media trolling he faced during his team's historic IPL 2025 championship campaign. The 20-year-old, who remained on the bench throughout RCB's title-winning season under captain Rajat Patidar, found himself targeted online for his supportive role as a squad member.
Despite not featuring in any matches during the tournament that ended RCB's 18-year wait for a trophy, Swastik Chikara gained visibility through his interactions with star batter Virat Kohli. This attention unfortunately, translated into criticism from sections of social media who dismissed his contributions as merely being a "water boy" for the team.
Chikara Silences 'Water Boy' Critics
The Uttar Pradesh cricketer recently appeared on a YouTube podcast with CricXtasy where he directly confronted these criticisms with remarkable maturity and perspective.
“Now tell me one thing. I wasn’t even playing, right? My job was to take care of the players, give them water, look after them, carry towels, or do anything else needed for the team. I just wanted to give my best, what’s the problem in that? That was my job, and giving water is a good thing. What’s wrong with that? At home, do you not give water to anyone, or wherever you are? In cricket, everyone gives water, who doesn’t?” Chikara told in the podcast.
'It Felt Great!' - Chikara Unfazed With Role
Chikara further transformed the narrative from criticism to privilege, highlighting the honor he found in supporting his teammates, particularly the legendary Virat Kohli.
“For me, it felt great. I was giving water to the best players, the world’s number one player (Virat Kohli), with my own hands. He drank water from my hands. What could be better than that? I really enjoyed it, and he drank it,” Chikara added.
The youngster's response underscores the often-overlooked importance of squad players who contribute to team success beyond their on-field performances. His attitude reflects the camaraderie that defined RCB's championship-winning campaign. Though he stayed on the bench for the whole season, his spirits weren't low while lifting the trophy with the team.
