In the Asia Cup 2025, India will be playing all their matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen travelling with something special. The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper and mentor in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gambhir, was carrying a KKR bag during a practice session.
Gautam Gambhir Travelling With KKR Bag
Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir is highly attached to his beloved Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side in the IPL. He has often expressed his love for the side, where he helped them lift IPL trophies in the past.
Gambhir, who was instrumental in helping Kolkata lift the IPL 2024 title under his mentorship, had to part ways with his side following his successful tenure as a mentor, as he was then awarded the role of head coach for the Men in Blue in all formats.
Gambhir, who has been thriving in taking the Indian team to the 2025 Champions Trophy title, has often had a soft corner for the KKR players and even the side.
Now, while the Indian team is in Dubai for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is set to be played from the 9th of September, Gambhir, during the practice session in Dubai, was seen taking his Kolkata Knight Riders bag around as he was signing autographs. Interestingly, Gambhir has not been associated with the side for the last one and a half years, but still carries it as a souvenir.
Gambhir-KKR Connection In The IPL
Gautam Gambhir and Kolkata Knight Riders share an interesting bond that dates back to 2011, when the Knight Riders management purchased Gambhir in the 2011 mega auctions. He then led them to their first IPL title in 2012 and then, again in 2014, as he had a successful stint as the skipper of the Kolkata-based side.
Following this, he had to part ways with the side, but then returned in the role of mentor, leading them to the 2024 IPL title under his guidance.
As for the upcoming assignment, India will be featuring in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025, where they will be facing the United Arab Emirates in the second game of the tournament on the 10th of September in Dubai, while the major challenge will be against Pakistan on the 14th of September at the same venue.
