'Mostly For Rinku' - Russell Reveals Watching IND-AUS T20Is For KKR Teammate

Andre Russell, the West Indies big-hitting giant, might be busy with his T10 playing duties for Deccan Gladiators in the ongoing tournament in Abu Dhabi but the famous cricketer revealed making precious time out to ensure he follows India versus Australia T20Is series across the world.

Reason? Russell's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) teammate and great friend Rinku Singh has been yielding his magic with the bat and smashing the Australians whenever he has walked out to bat.

The aggressive left-hander, who has had a tremendous rise from KKR maverick to a match-winning T20I aggressor down the order at No.6 for India, has played a few fantastic cameos for the side.

The 26-year-old hammered an enterprising 22* off 14 deliveries to seal India's victory in the opening match in Visakhapatnam and struck an even more explosive knock of 31 not out off just nine deliveries in the second T20I in Thiruvananthapuram.

Russell Tunes In IND-AUS T20Is For Rinku Singh

Russell, who deeply admires the fellow KKR aggressor for having emerged as a valiant match-winner in IPL and T20Is since enduring the most humble beginnings in his home town Almora in Uttar Pradesh, spoke to Hindustan Times and revealed how he makes sure to watch the highlights of the ongoing series in India for his great friend.

"I've been watching the games (India vs Australia T20Is) and if I miss something, I tune into the highlights and it's mostly for Rinku."

"I'm not surprised by what Rinku is doing. He joined KKR a few years ago. And every time he batted in practice games or in the nets, we saw the potential. He would hit those big shots. But getting that opportunity and doing it on the big stage, doing it IPL, finishing games after games, it gives him the confidence that every player desires."

"He has been a tremendous team man. It's heartening to someone so young, who has so much passion for the game, doing so well in wearing the blue. And I think he will improve further and become an even better player as the years go by," he added.
