Former India opener Murali Vijay recently shared insights into how the Indian cricket team's attitude and approach evolved when Virat Kohli succeeded MS Dhoni as captain. In a conversation with sports presenter Jatin Sapru, he highlighted the contrasting leadership styles of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli and how this transition significantly influenced India's performance, especially in the Test format.

Murali Vijay Opens Up On Dhoni's Captaincy In Test 

Murali Vijay, who made his Test debut in 2008 against Australia, offered an inside look into the shift in the team's mindset under Kohli's leadership. 

He attributed much of India’s success to the team’s renewed focus on fitness and a more aggressive approach towards the game. Kohli took over the Test captaincy from MS Dhoni and with this change, there was a marked transformation in the team’s outlook, particularly in terms of physical preparation and the hunger to win.

When Dhoni passed on the captaincy to Virat Kohli, Murali Vijay revealed that the change in leadership came with a radical transformation in the team’s attitude. Kohli, known for his intense work ethic and aggressive on-field persona, brought a new level of fitness culture into the Indian cricket team. 

According to Vijay, Kohli’s emphasis on physical fitness became a cornerstone of the team’s preparation, as the players were encouraged to be in top shape to match the demands of modern-day cricket.

On the other side, Murali vijay recalled how Dhoni led the team with a calm and composed demeanor. Under Dhoni, the focus was more on maintaining stability, and the team excelled at handling high-pressure situations with a sense of calm. 

Dhoni’s leadership was often marked by strategic thinking and calculated risk-taking, which worked wonders for India in several high-stakes matches.
