India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has recently been the talk of the town. Ever since India’s 0–2 Test series loss at home to South Africa, Gambhir has been under constant fire. Fans, former players, and critics have all pointed fingers at him, and there is undoubtedly pressure growing on him and Team India.

It is important to note that after Gambhir was appointed as the head coach, India has faced several historic setbacks. India lost its first bilateral series in Sri Lanka, suffered its first home Test series defeat, lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and has now been handed a series whitewash against South Africa in 25 years at home.

Adding to this, India saw three of its biggest Test stars, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli, retire from the format within just six months.

Manoj Tiwary slams Gautam Gambhir

After their retirement, many fans and supporters still blame Gambhir for creating an uncomfortable environment. No one has directly blamed Gambhir like former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary. Talking to the Hindustan Times, he has openly blamed the head coach for fast-tracking Ashwin’s retirement.

“You [Gambhir] made Ashwin insecure just by bringing Washington Sundar from outside the squad. It's a clear indication that you no longer trust Ashwin. In my opinion, it made him uncomfortable, and that's why he retired in Australia,” Tiwary told the Hindustan Times while talking about Gambhir.

Tiwary specifically attacked the lack of stability in the team, saying constant chopping and changing of the playing XI has hurt India’s consistency. According to him, the warning signs had been visible for months.

"To be honest, the writing was on the wall. It had to happen. I knew things were not going well; the process they wanted to follow was not the right strategy or plan. There was a lot of chopping and changing, which was very evident. That could have been in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, home series against New Zealand and now against South Africa," Tiwary told the Hindustan Times.

It can be said that, for now, India is facing a tough time in Test Cricket. However, the focus will soon shift to white-ball cricket as India prepares to face South Africa in a three-match ODI series.
