The Jamaican-born all-rounder Andre Russell has placed a tremendous amount of importance on his fitness and has vowed to look like a UFC fighter in the upcoming T20 World Cup that is due to take place next year in the United States and the West Indies. The swashbuckling all-rounder blossomed in the recently concluded T20I series earlier this month, where his side triumphed over the 2022 T20 World Cup champions by 3-2.

He believes that the recent series has given the Men in Maroon a much-needed impetus heading into the upcoming T20 World Cup. While interacting with TNT Sports, Russell promised that his side is up to the challenge and is ready to bring their A-game to the fore in the World Cup. Moreover, he also sheds light on his personal fitness goals and aims to transform his body like a UFC fighter ahead of the showpiece event.

Here's Andre Russell's Statement

"I'll be in better shape, to be honest: I'll be looking like a UFC fighter. This series win means so much. It [makes me] want to push myself to the limit. Have a lot of cricket to play and that's good. When you're playing cricket and in competition, your body is active and you're not just sat at home waiting for the World Cup. We are definitely going to give some teams a good, good run for their money in the World Cup."

After being absent from the international arena for nearly two years, Russell made a comeback in the five-match T20I series against England and played a pivotal role in uplifting the Caribbean unit to an emphatic 3-2 victory. The 35-year-old emerged as the biggest positive outcome from West Indies’ standpoint in that series.

Russell finished as the highest wicket-taker for the Men in Maroon with 7 wickets to his name while averaging 28.13. Besides, he was also able to revive his power-hitting ability, smocking it to all parts with an astronomically high strike rate of 169.35.
