Rohit Sharma was appointed as Indian team captain in late 2021, around the same time when Rahul Dravid joined the camp as their new head coach. With Sharma and Dravid at the helm, the ‘Men in Blue’ registered some emphatic series wins at home, sealed an ODI series in England, conquered the 2023 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and as of now, find themselves on the verge of a possible World Cup title.

A day prior to India’s World Cup 2023 title clash against Australia, captain Sharma hailed Rahul Dravid’s significance in the team, and praised the head coach for giving players all the freedom for expressing themselves.

Rohit Sharma praises coach Dravid

During the pre-match press conference for the World Cup 2023 final, Indian captain Rohit Sharma highlighted the importance of head coach Rahul Dravid in giving role clarity to all the players in the team.

The dashing opening batsman added that despite boasting of a contrasting style of playing cricket, Dravid gives the team the necessary freedom to express themselves on the field. Sharma further stated that his team is determined to win the 2023 World Cup for the former cricketer, owing to his overall contribution for Indian cricket, both as a player and as a coach. He said:

“Rahul Dravid's role has been absolutely massive, especially in terms of giving role clarity to players. It's quite contrasting in how he played his cricket and how I play my cricket and to agree on certain things, to give us that liberty, that says a lot about him. What he has done for Indian cricket is massive and he also wants to be part of this occasion. Let's do it for him!”

As of now, the Indian team is bracing itself to face serial winners Australia in the final of the 2023 World Cup. The much-awaited faceoff will be hosted by the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.

Rohit Sharma and co. will be entering the title clash off the back of an unbeaten run, which incidentally launched by defeating Australia in Chennai last month in their tournament opener.
