Suryakumar Yadav plundered 102 unbeaten runs from just 51 balls against SRH in front of a packed Wankhede Stadium in match number 55 of the IPL 2024 season. His innings orchestrated a remarkable win for the Mumbai Indians, as they lifted themselves up from the bottom of the 10-team points table.

Fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his batting heroics, the cricketer reflected his innings and unveiled the gameplan he had during his partnership with Tilak Varma.

Suryakumar Yadav launched 12 boundaries and six sixes on his way to a splendid 51-ball 102*. He also shared a 143-run stand with Tilak Varma to lift Mumbai Indians from 31-3 to overcome SRH’s 173-run total.

While speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Suryakumar admitted that he is feeling a “bit tired” after batting for nearly 18 overs in the game, and also provided a quick update on his injury scare. He said:

“I mean, I haven't done this in a very long time. I think today, after the 14th of December, is the first time I've fielded for 20 overs and also batted for nearly 18 overs. So yeah, I'm feeling a bit tired, but hopefully, tomorrow will be better. Nothing to worry about.”

Suryakumar Yadav further claimed that he mastered all his traditional shots from the “Mumbai school of arts” by playing cricket at the Wankhede Stadium. He said that his intent of playing aggressively will remain the same regardless of any game situation.

“It's a technique I've honed at the Mumbai school of arts, having played plenty of cricket at Wankhede. Once the ball stopped seaming, I relied on the shots I've practiced tirelessly in the nets. Regardless of the situation, my intent to play aggressively would have remained the same. I would have definitely approached the game with the same pattern.”

Suryakumar Yadav along with the rest of his Mumbai Indians teammates will now face the KKR franchise in their penultimate league game of the IPL 2024 season. The match will be hosted at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on May 11.
