England humbled India in the series opener, starting off their long tour on a brilliant note. The Three Lions triumphed over the Asian Giants by 28 runs in the first Test, concluding in four days at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.

While Ollie Pope stood out as one of the key fighters with the bat for the visiting side, the impact of debutant Tom Hartley in the game was unforgettable.

Hartley, who conceded over 100 runs in the first innings and was taken down by Indian batters, bounced back strongly in the second innings to claim a seven-wicket haul.

Weighing in on the same, England captain Ben Stokes pointed out that Tom Hartley's bowling efforts were instrumental in England's victory in the first Test against India, providing them with the "best chance" to humble the hosts.

Here’s what Ben Stokes told JioCinema when asked about his approach behind selecting spinners just before the start of the series opener:

“I think sometimes inexperience can be looked at into a bit too much. There's no doubt that experience makes players feel more comfortable and settled, especially in this environment.”

“But the spinners we have selected on this tour are ones we think will give us the best opportunity to beat India.”

‘It’s A Media Created Term’ - Ben Stokes On Bazball

Stokes further talking about their success strategy ‘Bazball’, stated that it’s a media created term and the team mostly tries to stay away from the term.

“It's a phrase that was created by the media. Something that we try and stay away from. It just came from what we have managed to do over the last two years and how we've played.”

The English all-rounder further added that their head coach, McCullum himself isn’t too fond of this term:

"We don't necessarily like it, Baz (coach Brendon McCullum) hates it! Whenever that word pops up, we just try to say that's how England plays Test cricket.”

After securing a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, England will now face India in Visakhapatnam starting from February 2.
