The post-Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli era has ignited a fierce battle for India's T20I top-order, with a new generation of aggressive batters eyeing for prominence. Yet, amidst this intense competition, one name's consistent omission has become increasingly debatable. Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Despite establishing himself as a formidable run-scorer across formats, the young prodigy finds himself surprisingly down the pecking order after being sidelined for the Asia Cup 2025 squad. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra shared his point of view on Jaiswal's debatable omission.

Chopra Labels Jaiswal's Omission an "Injustice"

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has been vocal about his confusion regarding the selection committee's decision, pointing to Jaiswal's impressive record and past role as a backup opener in the previous T20 World Cup.

“When you see Yashasvi, it seems like he is a three-format player. However, currently, he is playing only one format, and it seems like a travesty. It seems almost an injustice,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

A Waiting Game Across Formats

Chopra provided a pragmatic, albeit disappointing, outlook for the young batter's immediate future, suggesting his opportunities will initially come in the longest and then the 50-over format before a T20 return is possible.

“The truth for now is that he will play the two Tests against the West Indies, and I am pretty sure he will score runs as well because he is that kind of a player. I think he will now get a chance to travel with the ODI team. When the three-match series against Australia starts, he will be there,” Chopra observed.

Hope for T20 World Cup 2026 Inclusion

Despite the current setback, Chopra remains optimistic that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s quality will eventually force him back into the T20I picture, especially with a significant number of games scheduled before the next World Cup.

“I feel he will have to wait in T20s now also. His name will not come in the 15 that soon because when we win the Asia Cup, there won’t be much scope for change. However, before the World Cup happens, because there are 15 T20Is before that, I am very sure he will find a way into the 15,” Chopra added.

The coming months will be a test of patience for Jaiswal, as he looks to dominate in the formats available to him and forcefully remind the selectors of the unique firepower he brings to the top of the order.
