Punjab Kings (PBKS) batting sensation Ashutosh Sharma was delighted to fulfill a dream by playing a sweep shot against world-class bowler Jasprit Bumrah during the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024 on April 18 in Mullanpur.

After a rocky start, with PBKS struggling at 49 for the loss of 5 wickets in the seventh over, Shashank Singh's 41-run contribution and Ashutosh Sharma's explosive 61-run innings almost led Punjab to victory. However, Mumbai Indians staged a comeback, dismissing the hosts before they could secure the win, with Bumrah leading the bowling attack and claiming figures of 3/21.

Ashutosh's dream moment comes true

A standout moment of Ashutosh's innings, and possibly the match, was his six off a free hit in the 13th over. Bumrah delivered a full ball on the off-middle stump line, and Ashutosh capitalized on the opportunity, executing a perfectly timed paddle sweep over backward square leg. This display of skill left cricket fans worldwide impressed with Ashutosh's boldness and ability.

“It was my dream to hit a sweep shot off Jasprit Bumrah. I have been practicing these shots. It's a game of cricket so it's very common. we have to focus on our process. When I was playing, I had the belief to pull off a win,”  Ashutosh Sharma said in the post-match presentation

Mumbai Indians clinched a thrilling 9-run victory over Punjab Kings in their away game at Mullanpur during the ongoing IPL season. After posting a mammoth total of 192 runs in their allotted 20 overs, MI restricted PBKS for 183 runs in 19.1 overs. Remarkably, this marked the fourth instance in the current season where Punjab suffered defeat in the final over.
