Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja has expressed unwavering confidence in Glenn Maxwell's ability to bounce back in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, despite his challenging stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Maxwell, known for his explosive batting and handy spin bowling, faced a tough time with Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB), scoring just 52 runs in nine innings.

Khawaja Backs Maxwell To Shine In T20 World Cup 2024

Usman Khawaja believes Maxwell's experience and track record speak volumes about his capability to rise above setbacks.

"The IPL's absolutely irrelevant," Khawaja remarked, emphasizing Maxwell's proven track record in international cricket. "Any player who's performed over a long period of time understands that you can’t perform well every time you go out there."

Khawaja highlighted the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket, acknowledging the risks associated, particularly for middle-order batter like Maxwell.

He firmly asserted, "But (for this tournament) if he gets one good innings, he’s away. It doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past."

Despite Maxwell's underwhelming performance with the bat, Khawaja pointed out his valuable contributions with the ball, especially in crucial matches.

With the T20 World Cup 2024 set in the Caribbean, where spin is expected to play a significant role, Maxwell's dual ability as a spinner could prove vital for Australia alongside specialist spinners like Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar.

Maxwell, aged 35, remains a pivotal figure in Australia's T20 setup, having played a significant role in their recent ODI World Cup triumph. While he missed Australia's warm-up game against Namibia, anticipation surrounds his potential impact in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.\
