On Friday, former cricketer Danish Kaneria taunted the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, over the prize money for Olympic gold-medal winning javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem with his 'can't even afford air tickets' remark.

Nadeem, who shattered the Olympic record with his 92.97 m long throw, is set to receive a prize of 10 million PKR, which is a mere 3 lakh rupees. Kaneria, in response, urged the PM to reconsider the reward, pointing out that such a paltry amount wouldn't even cover the cost of his tickets to Paris.

The Olympic gold medallist will receive a prize that is four times the amount Shehbaz Sharif is awarding him. The IOC, in stark contrast, will bestow upon Nadeem a colossal prize of almost 42 lakh INR.

Interestingly, according to Etihad Airways a round-trip from Lahore to Paris is amounted roughly to 74,000 INR.

Kaneria roasts PAK PM over reward money

"Mr. Prime Minister, at least offer a graceful congratulations. Delete the picture of the million rupees you gave—it does nothing for his real needs. This amount is so small he can’t even afford air tickets. It’s an insult to both Arshad and the nation, considering his ongoing struggles.”

Meanwhile, Kaneria took to his Twitter and congratulated Arshad for his extraordinary game play and wrote:

“Bravo Arshad. History made! Pakistan’s first Olympic men’s javelin champion, Arshad Nadeem brings home a historic gold medal at Paris 2024! You’ve made the whole nation proud young man."

Numerous other cricketers like Babar Azam, Mohd Amir and more congratulated Nadeem for his historical achievement.
