'Imagine An ICC Event Without IND Vs PAK?' - Aakash Chopra Lashes Out At Apex Body

An India-Pakistan clash is a blockbuster event for the International Cricket Council (ICC), given the number of eyeballs and money the encounter attracts. However, since 2012, both nations due to geopolitical tensions, have not played a bilateral series, but have been constantly pitted against each other in ICC events, sans the World Test Championship (WTC).

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has lashed out at the ICC for not keeping any Indo-Pak Test in its third WTC Cycle.

Chopra speaking on his YouTube channel, urged ICC to allot an India-Pakistan Test series as well.

Here's what Chopra said

"You don't play against all teams. But this is WTC, it's an ICC event. It has been 4 years now... can you imagine an ICC event without India vs Pakistan? This can never happen. It's always at the start of the tournament so it gets off to a great start commercially. It gets the highest rating and people make money."

"So, is WTC not an ICC event? It's an ICC mace, they host the final. So, all the matches that take place in the cycle should be in the purview of the ICC. It will be 6 years, and you didn't have a single India-Pakistan series. This is also an ICC event. If it's not, make it clear. Call it bilateral cricket and accept that you have made WTC just to glamorize Tests."

While both nations played against each other in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, they last faced each other in a Test series back in 2007, when Pakistan toured India under Younis Khan's captaincy.
