Indian captain Rohit Sharma has addressed the rumors surrounding his potential retirement after winning the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Stadium. In the lead-up to the final, several cricket fans and experts speculated that India’s title clash against New Zealand might well be Sharma’s swansong ODI.

The legendary Indian opener delivered a ‘Player of the Match’ performance in the final, cracking 76 quick runs at the top of the order to set up the chase for his team.

Rohit Sharma crushes retirement rumors

Rohit Sharma led Team India to an undefeated 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign in the UAE. In the final itself, the legendary Indian opener whacked 76 runs off 83 balls with seven boundaries and three cracking sixes.

After bagging the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his final heroics, the 37-year-old addressed the rumors regarding his potential retirement from ODI cricket. Putting all rumors to rest, the seasoned Indian campaigner implied that he is not going to retire from the format anytime soon.

While speaking with the reporters during the post-match press conference, he said:

“I’m not gonna retire from this format. Just to make sure no rumors are spread moving forward.”

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20I cricket after Team India lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies last year. With his dwindling form off late, several fans also speculated that the legendary opener might choose retirement from ODIs after the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

However, his latest remark indicate that the 2027 ODI World Cup might well be on the cards for the 37-year-old.
