Team India romped to a clinical four-wicket win over New Zealand to clinch the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Stadium. Chasing a stiff 252-run target, captain and opening batter Rohit Sharma belted a sizzling 76 at the top of the order before Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and unbeaten KL Rahul produced valiant runs to take India past the finishing line.

As it turned out, the outcome also seems to have completed a poetic redemption arc of Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, whose ascension to the high-profile job as well as India’s recent results were met with severe scrutiny among Team India and cricket fans in general.

Team India remained unbeaten throughout the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, having topped the Group A points table with easy wins over Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand before walloping Australia in the semifinals.

The outcome marked India’s third Champions Trophy title after 2002 and 2013, and the first ICC ODI trophy in nearly 12 years.
