Pakistan fell short by six runs against Sri Lanka in the last league match of the Tri-Nation T20I Series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Although Pakistan lost, they have already qualified for the final, where they will once again face Sri Lanka.

After the match, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha spoke honestly about what went wrong. He explained that the target of 185 runs, set by Sri Lanka, was achievable, but Pakistan’s poor start in the run chase made things very difficult.

"Yeah, where we came from 40/4, you don't usually chase 180 but we had the chance but could not finish the game. I think it was a good wicket and with dew coming in, we had the chance but could not complete the job.

In the T20 format, if you don't start well with either bat or ball, you are going to lose the game more often than not.  I would have loved it more, if we had finished the game."

Sri Lanka qualify for Pakistan T20 Tri-series final

Notably, the match itself had several highlights. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first, but Sri Lanka’s openers immediately put pressure on the home side. Kamil Mishara played an excellent innings, scoring 76 runs off 48 balls.

Kusal Mendis also contributed well, adding 40 runs from just 23 deliveries. Their strong partnership helped Sri Lanka reach an impressive total of 184 runs in 20 overs.

In reply, Pakistan struggled early but gradually recovered thanks to Salman Ali Agha, who remained unbeaten with a well-played 63. Despite his efforts, Pakistan could only reach 178 for 7 by the end of their 20 overs.

Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera made a huge impact, taking four wickets while giving away only 20 runs.

With this win, Sri Lanka confirmed their place in the final. Both teams will now meet again in the championship match on Saturday, November 29, at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
