'If You Do Not Like This Selected Team...': Gavaskar Reacts on India's Asia Cup 2023 Squad

On Monday afternoon, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a strong 17-man India squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 in the presence of ODI captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

The squad had several surprise inclusion and some rather strange exclusions, which stirred up the social media space throughout the day. The selectors have picked Kuldeep Yadav as the lone specialist spinner in the touring party, with Ravindra Jadeja and Azar Patel providing support.

Several fans and analysts pointed out that India lacks a wicket-taking spinner in Yuzvendra Chahal or Ravichandran Ashwin, both of whom don't find a place in the side but remain possible candidates for World Cup 2023.

Talking about the team selection, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar gave his honest and no non-sense opinion.

Speaking to SportsTak, responding to a query regarding Ashwin's non-selection, Gavaskar asked people to back the selected group and not talk about players who missed out on a spot in the Indian squad for the six-nation tournament.

Here's what Gavaskar said

"He [Ashwin] could have been a potential candidate as I said earlier several players would have thought about being unlucky, but regardless this is our team now. So do not talk about Ashwin or any other player, and back this selection without creating any controversy about who is in or who is not.

If you do not like this selected team don't what the match, so don't start debating over this and that player. This is our Indian team and not just one particular person's."
