'If We Need To Score 220-230..,' Ajit Agarkar Issues Warning To All Teams Before T20 World Cup

BCCI's chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, has delivered a clear message to all participating teams in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

He emphasised that if the pitches in the US and the West Indies turn out to be high-scoring, India's squad can either set or chase large totals.

In IPL 2024, flat pitches have often seen scores exceeding 200, making such totals far from safe across most venues.

But how pitches will play in the Caribbean and the US will be interesting to see. India has limited experience playing in the US, where a multi-nation cricket tournament like the T20 World Cup will be held for the first time.

These unfamiliar conditions may pose a challenge. Conversely, team India has played extensively in the West Indies, and the players are more acquainted with the conditions there. Agarkar commented on the pitch conditions for the upcoming tournament, stating,

"If the World Cup turns out to be like the IPL , where 220-230 is normal, we've enough power in the squad."

It is pertinent to note that the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team is scheduled to play three league games at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, including a high-octane clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9.

There's been speculation that the pitches being prepared could be on the slower side. While pitches in the West Indies have tended to be slower in recent years, it remains to be seen how they'll perform during the World Cup.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is slated to commence in the USA and West Indies on June 1, 2024, just a week after the conclusion of the ongoing IPL 2024.
