Former Pakistani cricketer Muhammad Yousuf has backed the Pakistan team to do well in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. He opined that the men in green must do justice to the stadium renovation work done by PCB to host this event.
Pakistan is elated that they are to host an ICC tournament after almost two decades. Pakistan, along with UAE, will co-host the Champions Trophy 2025 edition beginning from February 19.
At the same time, Pakistani fans have great expectations from the team. The Mohammad Rizwan-led team is also the defending champions playing at home.
Muhammad Yousuf urges Pakistan to take inspiration from PCB
As Pakistan prepares to host the Champions Trophy for the first time in 29 years, legendary batter Muhammad Yousuf has expressed optimism about the national team’s chances.
He believes that Mohammad Rizwan and his men should play with the same dedication and efficiency that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) showed in renovating stadiums ahead of the tournament.
“I am very excited like any Pakistani. After 29 years, Pakistan is hosting an ICC event. If Pakistan reaches the final, then they will play at home. I wish Pakistan cricket would play exactly the way the PCB has worked to renovate the stadiums. Kudos to the PCB for the way they renovated all the stadiums in six months," Yousuf said on Samaa TV.
Pakistan, the defending champions, will kick off their campaign against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi.
However, the tournament was moved to a hybrid model at the last minute after team India refused to travel to Pakistan citing security reasons. The men in blue will play all their games in Dubai, UAE.
Pakistan removes Indian flag from Karachi Stadium
As the Champions Trophy 2025 approaches, Pakistan has stirred up a huge controversy over the alleged omission of India’s flag at Karachi’s National Stadium.
The viral clip, circulating on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), shows the flags of New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan displayed prominently, but India’s tricolour is nowhere in sight.
This has created a huge controversy, with many alleging that the organisers have been guilty of unsportsmanlike behaviour. According to reports, as India is not playing any match in Pakistan, the authorities might have decided to leave out the flag.
