Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has bravely shared his personal struggle with clinical depression, a topic he has seldom discussed openly.

In a heartfelt video posted on his official X platform account, Uthappa recounted his mental health struggles from 2011, revealing a period where he felt worthless and overwhelmed by his emotional turmoil.

Uthappa's video sheds light on his healing journey, emphasizing the importance of taking things one day at a time.

“In 2011, I was so ashamed of who I became as a human being. It's absolutely ok to not know what you have to do next. Sometimes existing for that one day is what you have to do next. Often you don't need light at the end of the tunnel. You need the light only till the next step,” Uthappa said in his emotional video.

In his caption, Uthappa acknowledged the challenges he faced on and off the cricket field.

“I've faced many battles on the cricket field, but none as tough as the one I fought with depression. I'm breaking the silence around mental health because I know I'm not alone,” he wrote.

He also paid tribute to cricketers Graham Thorpe, David Johnson, and VB Chandrasekhar, who tragically died by suicide.

The T20 World Cup winner, who retired from all forms of cricket on September 14, 2022, leaves behind a legacy of significant contributions, including 46 ODIs with 934 runs and 13 T20Is with 249 runs.

His courage in sharing his story aims to inspire others and foster a supportive dialogue around mental health.
