‘I Was More Disappointed…,’ Gaikwad After Missing Century In CSK’s Win Vs SRH

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad orchestrated a clinical win for his team over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Chennai in match number 46 of the IPL 2024 season. The cricketer unfurled the innings of the match through his scintillating 98, all while sharing a 107-run partnership with number three Daryl Mitchell.

After CSK’s dominant outing at home, Gaikwad unveiled the aspects his team improved on the field, and also recalled the mindset he had while batting in the middle.

Ruturaj Gaikwad says missing out on 100 not a concern

While speaking with the commentators during the post-match presentation ceremony, winning skipper and ‘Player of the Match’ Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his excitement of winning with a 78-run margin on ‘tough wet conditions’.

He also added that scoring a century was never his agenda as he was only focusing for a 220-225 finish for his team. Gaikwad said:

“Feeling good, it’s tough to play in such wet conditions and to be able to win by 70 odd runs is a clinical performance. Batting first at the toss was a blessing in disguise for us. I was never thinking about a 100, I just wanted to make sure we get to 220-225, and even in the last game it was about getting those 10-15 extra runs.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad, however, did admit his disappointment of missing out on a couple of huge hits during the finishing stages of his innings. The 27-year-old further praised his team for sticking up to their new ‘plans’, one which improved their bowling and fielding errors. Much like captains this IPL 2024 season, Gaikwad also spoke highly in favour of the newly-introduced ‘Impact Player’ rule. He added:

“I was more disappointed in missing out on those 4-5 hits in the end and was upset during the mid-innings too. The total was enough obviously but last game we made some errors and there were loose balls. So, we came up with another plan and we stuck to those today, we knew what to expect and the catches won it for us. With the impact player rule you always want those extra 20 runs, you never know what the par score could be and you always want those extra runs.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged Tushar Deshpande’s match-winning spell, one which yielded four SRH wickets at the expense of just 27 runs.

“Definitely, that was one area where we lost the momentum, not getting enough wickets in the powerplay. If we pick early wickets, it puts the opposition under pressure, and we know how good of a bowler Tushar is and he delivered today. Credit to Jaddu as well.”

Gaikwad will now be seen leading his CSK troops in their subsequent IPL 2024 challenge against the Punjab Kings. The much-awaited contest will also be hosted by Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium on May 1.
