Former Australian captain Aaron Finch has made a hilarious claim involving his retirement from international cricket. The dynamic opening batsman played the last match of his illustrious Australian career in October 2022, i.e., roughly a year after leading his country to 2021 T20 World Cup win in the UAE.

The former cricketer, currently one of the commentators for the 2023 World Cup in India, recently claimed that New Zealand’s tearaway speedster Trent Boult must have fumed upon learning about the batsman’s retirement.

Finch describes himself a guaranteed wicket for Boult

Explosive Australian opener Aaron Finch went up against Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand a number of times during his playing days. Trent Boult, who led New Zealand’s new-ball attack on most of those occasions, was a constant troublemaker for Finch, dismissing the batsman eight times across all international formats.

Fully aware of his shortcomings against Boult, Finch recently made a hilarious claim about his retirement, stating that the ‘Black Caps’ speedster was fuming upon learning of his exit from the game. Moreover, the former Australian skipper also described himself as a ‘guaranteed wicket’ for the tearaway Kiwi fast bowler.

The legendary opener praised the pace veteran during Australia’s must-win World Cup 2023 clash against New Zealand in Dharamsala, where Boult picked up three wickets in a high-scoring Australian innings.

In hindsight, Finch averaged just nine against Boult across all their Test meetings. Having scored just 72 Test runs against the New Zealand pacer, the batsman lost his wicket five times in the format.

Finch was also entrapped by Boult thrice at the expense of just 74 runs in limited-overs internationals (ODIs and T20Is combined).
