Chennai Super Kings had a disappointing end to their IPL 2025 campaign. The five-time IPL champions finished at the bottom of the table, ending the season in 10th place. Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to injury, and veteran MS Dhoni took charge for most of the matches.
While Dhoni failed to guide the team to victory, his longtime teammate Ravindra Jadeja reflected on Dhoni’s leadership and recalled their first meeting back in 2005.
Jadeja on Dhoni's Characteristics
Speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel, Jadeja shared details about his first encounter with MS Dhoni.
"I first met MS Dhoni during the Challengers Trophy 2005 in Chennai. I was coming from Mumbai and I guess he was also coming from there in the same flight. I was sitting in the economy class and he was sitting in the business class. Everybody was saying Dhoni is sitting in front there but I was hesitant to meet him. Even now, I still get hesitant to meet him when he is not in the mood," said Jadeja on Ravichandran Ashwin's YouTube channel.
It is important to note that both Jadeja and MS Dhoni have been part of Chennai Super Kings since its inception in 2008. The duo played 205 matches together and won 116 of them.
Their partnership has also been remarkable in the national team, while one shines with the gloves, the other stands out in the field without them. Jadeja further spoke about Dhoni’s character, highlighting his selflessness and commitment to the game.
"I never heard MS Dhoni talk about his personal milestones - He never thought about his own 50's & 100's - He always thought about the other ten players in the team," Jadeja concluded.
Dhoni, however, didn’t have a notable season this year. In his 13 matches, he scored just 196 runs at an average of 24.5 and an uncharacteristically low strike rate of 135.17.
With the veteran confirming that Ruturaj Gaikwad will return as captain of the Yellow Army in 2026, the veteran will look to make a comeback next season without the burden of leadership.
